Why 2-1-1?
Access to emergency police and fire services through the "911" telephone number is nearly universal and an indispensable service. Telephone directory assistance available by dialing "411", is another service we have come to depend upon. However, thousands of individuals and families search every day for emergency financial assistance, food or shelter. Looking for help means finding dozens of phone numbers and then searching through a confusing maze of agencies and services.

For those who want to give back to the community through volunteerism, the challenges are similar. 2-1-1 simplifies these challenges and allows callers to find or give help by dialing one easy to remember number.

HMIS

Homeless Management Information System

This platform was also used as the primary case management system for the area's long term recovery services after the 2004 hurricane season.

"Being homeless is not job specific. It doesn’t spare gender, age, race or ethnicity. It is equal opportunity misery. " (quote from the Milwaukee Guest House Website)

Since 2001, 2-1-1 Brevard has served as the lead agency for the county's Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).  Funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) the HMIS allows providers of services to homeless individuals and families to share information on services and common clients through a web-based case management system. The HMIS facilitates the collection and reporting of information about homeless needs and services on a community-wide level.
